Met A day at the circus brengen we programmeurs, marketeers, journalisten en circus professionals bijeen voor inhoudelijk discours, hands-on labs en circusperformances. 

Het gaat goed met het circus in Nederland. En er is nog een wereld te winnen. Terwijl festivals hun plek bestendigen, steeds meer gezelschappen erkenning krijgen en nieuwe makers instromen in talentenprogramma’s, lijken niet alle (vlakkevloer-)theaters van de bloei en opkomst van deze kunstdiscipline op de hoogte. Of er wordt geaarzeld. Circus in Nederland staat in de startblokken, maar zit het publiek wel op ons te wachten? Hoe laat je een publiek kennis maken met dit genre? Vanuit de Circuscoalitie/ Circuspunt willen we die impasse doorbreken en gaan we in gesprek. Want zolang circus zich niet vaker op de vlakke vloer kan presenteren, blijft het moeilijk om de harten van een nieuw publiek te veroveren.

• Wat zijn de kansen/belemmeringen voor theaters om circus te brengen

3. Artistieke cross overs met circus, hoe gebruik je circus om publiek van andere genres te bereiken en wat zijn hier de valkuilen en uitdagingen. Gespreksleider Marc Eysink Smeets (Festival Circolo). Pia Meuthen (Panama Picture) en Frédérique Chauvet (Barok Opera Amsterdam) schuiven aan als experts

Circuspunt is het platform voor het (verenigde) Nederlandse circusveld. Het ondersteunt en stimuleert de algehele artistieke en zakelijke ontwikkeling van en in de sector.

De Circuscoalitie is een nationaal samenwerkingsverband van presenterende en (co)producerende instellingen die belang hechten aan een florerend circusklimaat in Nederland. Door talent, speelplekken en publiek voor circus te stimuleren wil de Circuscoalitie het genre verder ontwikkelen.

With A day at the circus we bring together programmers, marketers, journalists and circus professionals for content-based discourse, hands-on labs and circus performances.

It goes well with the circus in the Netherlands. And there is still a world to win. While festivals are consolidating their position, more and more companies are gaining recognition and new makers are entering talent programmes, not all (open floor) theatres seem to be aware of the blossoming and rise of this art discipline. Or they hesitate. Circus in the Netherlands is genuinely ready. but is the audience ready for us? How do you introduce an audience to this genre? The Circuscoalitie/Circuspunt wants to break that deadlock and we are going to talk. Because if circus cannot present itself on the flat floor more often, it will remain difficult to conquer the hearts of a new audience.

Keynotes from different perspectives on the opportunities and obstacles of contemporary circus on the Dutch stages.

Keynote speakers: Zinzi Oegema (circus maker) from the makers, Daphne van Iperen (including circus programmer Korzo) from the theaters and Marieke van Oosten (marketer at Over het IJ Festival and the Circuscoalitie) from the perfective of marketing.

2. Marketing: Marketing opportunity and pitfalls, circus image problem and the needs of the public. Discussion leader Marieke van Oosten
3. Artistic crossovers with circus, how do you use circus to reach audiences of other genres and what are the pitfalls and challenges here? Discussion leader Marc Eysink Smeets (Festival Circolo). Pia Meuthen (Panama Picture) and Frédérique Chauvet (Baroque Opera Amsterdam) join as experts
