Hip-hop and contemporary dancers flow from ‘Wu Wei’ without a beat and classical musicians flow without sheet music with the movement - like a new entity that transcends duality.
In the dance performance Qi, choreographer Ruben Chi takes you on a personal journey between the two worlds of his cultural identity as a Chinese-Dutch artist: between east and west, between the known and the unknown. According to the principle of Qi - meaning breath or life energy, a lively game is created that flows and collides and is in constant motion. It’s about the harmony of opposites, inspired by the natural world. Through a search for balance, flow, connection and constant change, the dancers and musicians in Qi eventually create a whole new energy in which the opposites form an inseparable unity.
Nothing in the Universe is fixed, static or non-moving: everything is transforming all the time. - the philosophy of Tao.
