 Double Bill 

Feminale invites you to step into the world of women through a choreographic double bill by Krisztina de Châtel and Astrid Boons, centring on the universal struggle for emancipation and the recognition of the power of women.

 Krisztina de Châtel 

In the brand-new Scala, Krisztina de Châtel chooses the context of the world stage in which war, polarisation and violence profoundly affect the fate and lives of women. De Châtel challenges her dancers to keep their balance on a metres-tall stair of her own design. Scenographer Theun Mosk suggested the idea of a revolving stair. The five dancers move across the steps in repetitive patterns, in search of peace and security that their turbulent world does not offer. 

 Astrid Boons 

In her new choreography Arise, Astrid Boons shows us the personal perspective in which the social and societal expectations that are imposed on women determine which ambitions are appropriate. Three dancers struggle against stringent physical boundaries that consist of nothing more than light. Intuitively and searchingly, the bodies flow and solidify in space, until they slowly reveal their power and fragility. Astrid Boons is undeniably a prominent talent. Krisztina de Châtel has for decades been the grande dame of Dutch modern dance, and has over the years supported many talents. With this collaboration, she once again gives an impulse to the development of modern dance in the Netherlands.
